Gleeds has joined 155 global corporations in the largest ever UN-backed CEO-led climate advocacy agreement. The collective has signed a statement urging governments to align their COVID-19 economic aid and recovery efforts with the latest climate science.

The campaign, which has received signatures from 155 global organisations, asks companies to reaffirm their own science-based commitments to achieving a zero-carbon economy and calls on governments to match their ambitionss.

In line with its corporate responsibility strategy, and as a member of the Science Based Targets initiative, Gleeds has joined the call for policies that will build resilience against future shocks, supporting efforts to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement - to limit global warming to within 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, in line with reaching net-zero emissions prior to 2050.

As governments around the world react to the continuous impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has never been a more important time for us to re-examine our carbon footprint and our responsibilities to address the long-term effects of climate change. The built environment sector has responded swiftly to the impact of COVID-19, and through the Science Based Targets initiative, we have the opportunity to build resilience for the future, by aligning our recovery efforts with a drive to reduce carbon emissions.

Graham Harle, Chief Executive Officer, Gleeds

Gleeds joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in March 2020, as part of its own commitment to reduce the impact of its operations on climate change. The SBTi, which is a collaboration between CDP, the UN Global Compact, World Resources Institute and WWF, independently assesses and validates corporate climate targets against the latest climate science.
