At Gleeds we believe in making a meaningful difference locally and globally.

We recognise the importance of responsible and sustainable practices to minimise our impact on the environment, protecting and enhancing the planet for future generations.

The climate crisis is the defining moment of our generation. As a responsible business, we recognise that our actions have an impact both locally and globally, and seek to address climate, natural resources, waste management and nature in our business goals and policies.

However, we cannot achieve this alone. We’re working with our clients and partners to deliver environmental solutions and investing in new technologies to fast-track the transition to a low carbon economy.

The journey to Net Zero

In 2023, Gleeds became one of the first organisations to achieve validation for our decarbonisation targets by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) under its Corporate Net Zero standard. The standard is the world's only framework for corporate net-zero target setting in line with climate science, widely regarded as the global benchmark for ambitious climate action.

We’re also proud to be working with some of the world’s most advanced organisations to accelerate their net-zero plans and support the clean energy transition. From establishing carbon reduction strategies, to managing green energy projects and advising on hydrogen networks, we’re committed to supporting the decarbonisation challenge.

What matters gets measured.

We believe that setting and measuring against ambitious targets helps to focus our strategy on meaningful actions.

We aim to reduce our carbon emissions in line with climate science and the Paris Agreement, to support the world in keeping global temperature rise to below 1.5 degrees.

Gleeds’ SBTi validated targets:

  • Reach Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by 2040
  • Reduce scope 1 and 2 emissions by 46.2% by 2030
  • Reduce scope 3 emissions (from purchased goods and services, business travel and employee commuting) by 46.2% by 2030
  • Reduce scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 90% by 2040.

We have committed to switching all of our UK offices on to a renewable electricity supply by 2025, and as many of our global offices as feasible by 2027.

Plastic pollution is a problem across the world. The launch of our plastics policy aims to reduce overall plastic usage across our offices, and eliminate single-use plastics entirely.

Climate science tells us that we need rapid and deep emissions cuts if we are to achieve global net-zero and prevent the most damaging effects of climate change. Gleeds’ net-zero targets match the urgency of the climate crisis and set a clear example
that their peers must follow.

Climate Transition plan

As part of our Net Zero strategy, we report our global greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions each year to track and transparently show our progress.

We know that setting a target is not enough, so we also have carbon reduction plans in place, incorporating initiatives that we’re undertaking across our operations.

Recognising the role that leadership and advocacy plays in driving these targets, we’re developing a detailed Climate Transition Plan for our global business.

Helping clients to decarbonise their estates

Through the advice we provide, we’re having a significant impact on the sustainability performance of the entire industry.

Whether it’s guidance on how to implement low carbon alternatives, or introducing new technologies such as our Decarbonise tool, we’re actively helping our clients to reduce the environmental impacts of their buildings and estates.

With 80% of the 2050 building stock already existing today, we must prioritise decarbonising what we already have
