Providing a cutting-edge home for scientific innovation in the heart of Cambridgeshire’s thriving economy

Spearheaded by Manchester-owned Bruntwood SciTech, Melbourn Science Park is a transformative development in Cambridgeshire. Aiming to provide cutting-edge facilities for scientific innovation, the project includes refurbishment and construction across nine buildings spanning 390,000 sqf.

Key components comprise office and lab spaces, a multi-storey car park, a public house refurbishment and extensive landscaping to create a vibrant, sustainable campus. The tallest of the new lab buildings will be 17 metres high, while the ‘mobility hub’, featuring EV charging points, a cycle store with repair and maintenance stations and cycle hire, will be 21.2 metres tall.

With a broad range of occupiers, there is a diversified mix of accommodation and building sizes, ranging from start-up and incubator units to commercial-grade labs for institutional occupiers and Big Pharma.

Bruntwood SciTech’s approach is to engage fully with communities and explain what their schemes will provide in terms of sustainable employment and other benefits, whilst also being willing to tweak proposals to address local concerns.

The project is aiming for a BREEAM Excellent rating, with our team navigating cost options from concept to budget and coordinating multiple stakeholders.

Gleeds is providing comprehensive cost management services, acting as Employer's Agent and overseeing lifecycle costing and pre-demolition audits. We are also managing procurement and enabling advanced works to streamline construction.
