Gleeds is providing employer’s agent and cost management services at EdCity, an exciting new mixed-use development set to create a new hub for the local community around White City, London.
EdCity is a not-for-profit partnership between Ark, an educational charity, and Hammersmith and Fulham Council supported by development manager, Vengrove. The project will include an education hub, office space, new affordable housing and a mix of community spaces, and is set to rejuvenate and provide much-needed services in the area.
Gleeds has been working across two phases of the project; with Phase One completed in early 2024. This comprised a 10-storey commercial office building and 24 residential apartments. A new primary school was created, and the OnSide Youth Zone has been providing a wide range of affordable daytime, evening and weekend activities for local young people since it was opened by Prince William in March 2024.
The second phase includes over 100 further apartments, a nursery and an adult education centre. The adult education centre will support those looking to take their first steps back into education, training or employment.
Gleeds’ services have included contract administration through the employer’s agent role, while the cost management team has provided valuations, cashflow preparation and monitoring, cost reporting and value management. Gleeds has played an active role in strengthening the relationships on the project – particularly with the contractor, and this has brought about improved and more open communications and a better working dynamic for all those on the project.
EdCity is set to bring a wealth of benefits to the White City area, including meeting a growing demand for affordable housing and community spaces, and supporting people of all ages with their educational needs. With a new public realm underway, accessibility will be improved daily for those who live and work near the development.
All the residences will be managed by the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, while rent received from the 95,000sqft office space will be reinvested by Ark to further its charitable educational goals.
