Climate change adaptation
Climate change has direct and indirect impacts on the land and buildings that our clients own, occupy and operate. We help them to assess and understand what climate change means to their assets and operations, then develop resilience plans that will mitigate climate change risks.
Climate adaptation and resilience is a complex scenario. Our team of specialists undertakes assessments to identify the climate change risks likely to affect the land or building, and the operational resilience of the activities that take place there.
This will vary from buildings and portfolios to infrastructure and cities.
Climate change risks such as flooding, overheating or drought exposure make environments less safe and less attractive, whilst also intensifying social disadvantages. It can also mean higher insurance premiums and lower asset values.
Climate risk assessments
Using local environmental data and climate change projections, we model the impacts of different warming scenarios on the buildings we assess. Evaluating the potential impacts on the local environment, we review these together with our client’s operational team to understand how those risks will affect their operations.
Working with our client’s senior stakeholders, we translate the climate change risks we identify onto organisational risk registers, to make risk management more effective in the future.
Building and operational resilience planning
Preparing for the worst is a core part of business continuity planning for any organisation. We use the insights gleaned through our climate change risk assessments to identify and recommend measures that will boost resilience.
We work with our clients to understand the financial implications of implementing mitigation measures, and the potential consequences of not taking action. We then help to develop and implement both physical and operational mitigation measures to protect their people, property and operations.
