Role

Chief Executive Officer, Gleeds Americas

Location

Denver, United States

Stuart Lumsden, President and CEO of Gleeds in the Americas, has been with the business since graduating from university in Scotland in the UK. After spending several years in the Edinburgh office, Stuart was keen to expand his horizons and initially transferred to the US on a two-year visa. Over 20 years later, Stuart’s impact on the organisation in the US has been undeniable.

Stuart’s role focuses on setting and executing strategy for the US business, financial management and decision making, as well as working closely with the rest of the executive team to guide the overall direction of the business. Working across time zones, Stuart’s days usually comprise a range of project meetings, fee development, interviews, client events, travel and leading on bidding activities.

Motivated by a whole host of factors, Stuart enjoys winning work, adding value for his clients and developing the careers of his team members. Having spent his whole career with Gleeds, Stuart praises its inclusive culture and limitless opportunities available. He advises those new to the business to always go the extra mile, as hard work is recognised and rewarded.

It was a graduate opportunity initially that got me to Gleeds, but I had heard great things about the company through career interviews. The culture has always been strong but over the past ten years this has really thrived. I have always been offered great opportunities with Gleeds. The variety of projects and different roles I have performed over the years has kept it interesting. The main reason for the longevity is the team. I recognized at an early stage in my career that there was a ‘can-do’ mentality where everyone pulls together to get the job done.

When he’s not leading the US business, during his downtime Stuart enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, dining out, travel, cycling, walking his dog and attending concerts from time to time. If he hadn’t become a leading presence at Gleeds, Stuart would have furthered his love of animals through becoming a vet.
