Scott Kenna is the Head of Building Surveying for the UK at Gleeds, an essential role in delivering and developing surveying services. Based in the Gleeds Nottingham office, he ensures seamless integration between the building surveying team and other key departments such as bidding, finance, digital, risk, HR and IT.

Day-to-day, Scott’s work is varied, involving everything from reviewing bids and commercials, learning and implementing new technology, pitching to clients and resolving technical commercial issues. He also enjoys developing new ideas and concepts, compiling marketing literature, preparing business cases and assisting the risk directorate, as well as reviewing and advising on the impact of changes in legislation.

Motivated by a passion for progression and growth, Scott finds fulfilment in seeing projects through to completion, helping clients achieve their goals, whilst guiding colleagues through advancing their careers and constantly seeking smarter ways to work.

As the son of a builder, Scott has been involved in property from an early age and enjoyed understanding the built environment. A mix of office and site time working with a blend of personalities always appealed to him, sparking a natural curiosity for construction, leading him to his career today. Scott was initially attracted to the business due to its strong reputation and local presence, but it was the people who solidified his decision to grow his career within the company. He resonates with Gleeds' value of ‘innovation with agility’, appreciating the importance of being forward- thinking and adaptable in a rapidly changing industry.

For new joiners, Scott advises taking full advantage of the wealth of knowledge available at Gleeds, emphasising that there is “no such thing as a silly question”. He believes the diverse expertise within the company offers a fantastic opportunity for learning and development. Among his proudest achievements is his work on a national inquiry project, here he prepared a design guide for the Home Office and was subsequently retained to deliver sites across the UK. However, he is also proud of his collaboration with senior management and his team at Gleeds to develop a strategy that successfully doubled the size of the building surveying department.

Outside of work, Scott enjoys spending time with his family, travelling, playing golf and supporting Nottingham Forest FC.
