Hong Kong and Singapore

Randal Leonard serves as the Director for Gleeds’ Singapore office, overseeing the development and growth of the business across Singapore and Southeast Asia, including Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines.

His role encompasses managing both live projects and new opportunities, with a focus on quantity surveying and project management across the region. Randal’s typical day involves working with his team to ensure projects run smoothly and clients receive the best service. Preferring in-person interactions, he focuses on real-time problem-solving rather than video calls. He usually starts and ends his day with exercise to stay fit and clear his mind. He is driven by seeing his team grow and improve.

I take great satisfaction in passing on knowledge from my 30 years of experience and witnessing the positive impact it has on my team's performance.

Randal is motivated by the potential for improvement in the consultancy sector in the region and aims to demonstrate a higher quality of service to clients.

Encouraged by his father to travel, Randal first worked in Hong Kong in 1995 and developed a love for Asia. After moving to Hong Kong in 2008, he then relocated to Singapore in 2019, driven by his passion for the region and its opportunities. Randal was impressed with Gleeds when he worked alongside them from 2010 to 2012. When given the opportunity to join, he didn’t hesitate, drawn by the organisation’s professionalism and company culture.

Randal resonates with value of delivering "professionalism with personality," reflecting his approach to his work. He believes in the importance of communication.

His advice to new joiners is:

Don’t be afraid to communicate. Speak up, challenge and be challenged. This is what will make you better professionally and what makes Gleeds different.

Randal’s proudest achievement is restarting the Singapore business in 2019 and successfully growing it during the Covid-19 pandemic, turning a global crisis into a period of strength and expansion.

A sports fanatic, Randal has transitioned from rugby to cricket and plays regularly for the Singapore Cricket Club. He also enjoys discovering the trails and parks of Singapore with his wife. If not in his current line of work, Randal believes he would have pursued a career as a sports coach or teacher, reflecting his passion for mentoring.
