Role

Associate Director

Location

London, United Kingdom

Jonathan is an Associate Director at Gleeds, focusing on advanced technology and data centres. In his role, Jonathan brings a diverse track record of experience, helping clients unlock innovation and sustainability in an ever-evolving sector.

His interest in data centres began two decades ago, while working in his first industry role. An early project supporting a client with cable and satellite channel infrastructure opened the doors to the world of data centres; complex, highly secure environments where the internet truly “lives.” From that moment, Jonathan’s interest in data centres only continued to grow. He went on to broaden his expertise across operations and commercial strategy, eventually serving as Commercial Director for a colocation provider. This role led to opportunities in building and operating facilities for AWS and collaborating with industry leaders such as Intel, AMD, Nvidia, HP, Dell, and Asus, where he gained invaluable insight into the impact of advancing compute density on design, cooling, and infrastructure planning.

Jonathan has witnessed first-hand the sector’s relentless pace of change, particularly the explosive growth of artificial intelligence in recent years. He believes that the increasing demand for power, fibre, and bandwidth, as well as the vital role of sustainability metrics such as PUE, CUE, WUE, and now UUE, will be instrumental in shaping the next generation of facilities. His enjoys guiding clients through these challenges, whether designing hyperscale sites exceeding 100MW or smaller edge facilities under 20MW.

At Gleeds, Jonathan is motivated by the opportunity to work alongside talented colleagues and clients, delivering tailored pragmatic solutions that meet the sometimes complex demands of our projects. He values the firm’s culture of professionalism and commitment, and he encourages new joiners to embrace curiosity, build connections, and not shy away from asking questions.

Outside of work, Jonathan enjoys a full family life—coaching his son’s rugby team, supporting his daughter in dance and singing, and spending time with his wife. He is also a keen open-water swimmer, mountain biker, and sports fan, particularly of Formula 1 and rugby union. Had he not pursued his career in data centres, he imagines he would have followed his grandfathers into engineering, continuing a family tradition of contributing to the infrastructure landscape.
