James’ primary focus is on integrating cutting-edge data practices to enhance our business operations. He is an expert in utilising digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and data analytics to augment our core services, provide thought leadership, and conduct cutting-edge market research. He is often running strategic sessions, meeting with clients and suppliers, and delivering talks at academic, government, or client institutions.
The potential of digitally augmented services is what led him to the field, a topic he explored extensively in his university dissertation. Combining his domain knowledge as a Quantity Surveyor with his passion for data and AI, he has been able to discover his true calling. He is committed to future-proofing our industry, ensuring that Gleeds and the wider construction sector are fully prepared for a data-driven future. He is passionate about inspiring his colleagues, and demonstrating to them how data, digital technology, and AI can enhance their professional capabilities.
What drew him to Gleeds was a culture that fosters personal development and encourages innovation. The company value of 'professionalism with personality' deeply resonates with him.
The people at Gleeds are truly amazing. Everyone is encouraged to develop their unique set of skills and personality, helping people deliver better projects, which in turn benefits society—a mission I am wholeheartedly committed to.
To newcomers at Gleeds, James would suggest taking the time to get to know as many people as possible, don't be scared to be yourself, and always keeping in mind that it is a place where good ideas can rise to the top.
Two of his proudest moments include passing his APC, which marked the beginning of his professional journey, and more recently, being recognised as one of the top 100 people in data in the country.
James also puts his natural inclination towards patterns and structures to use outside of work, as a keen musician. He plays in a few bands, including a rock and a jazz band, and is an avid vinyl collector. If he hadn't pursued a career in data analytics and construction, he might have followed his second passion to become a touring musician. He is also a long-suffering Tottenham Hotspur supporter and season ticket holder.
