James has 15 years’ experience in risk management, predominantly working in large organisations in the defence, rail and healthcare sectors. He has successfully navigated challenging projects, programmes and portfolios and plays a pivotal role in delivering risk training and upskilling, facilitating the integration of a positive risk culture.
James has also been responsible for leading on organisation risk frameworks and looking at how advances in AI can improve delivery for clients. Providing strong leadership, he coordinates activities to reduce risk exposure and uncertainties within programmes.
He is particularly passionate about mentoring individuals in the field, both to ensure they can make more informed decisions to support delivery teams and to increase market presence and support new opportunities. He also enjoys analysing a range of data to find solutions to minimise threats a business may face.
A typical day for James is quite varied. He spends his time providing expert advice to develop and implement risk management approaches and systems for clients, incorporating best practices and procedures. He also facilitates workshops and engages with delivery teams to ensure effective implementation of risk management and uses leading industry software packages to support risk analysis and provide recommendations to clients to support better decision-making.
James was attracted to join Gleeds because of the high volume of exciting and impactful projects he can get involved with, and knowing that he has contributed to national and international growth. The Gleeds value that resonates with James the most is ‘professionalism with personality’. He strives to ensure that everyone is treated with the same level of respect, no matter their level of experience. His advice to anyone joining the company would be to demonstrate passion for the role you’re in and always seek support if you need it.
Outside of work, James enjoys spending time with his family by taking day trips and holidays. He also enjoys keeping fit and using his home gym. If he hadn’t moved into his line of business, he would have joined the armed forces. When he’s taking it a little bit easier, he watches a lot of sport, particularly football, as he’s been a Liverpool supporter for many years.
