Driving our clients’ procurement and sustainability strategies is front and centre for David Allcock in his role. While he spends most of his time on client-facing activities, he also supports bid processes and is involved in developing a procurement consultancy within the Gleeds business.

Working with organisations across both private and public sectors, David enjoys making a difference through creating a step change in their delivery. Within Gleeds, he likes to coach people to help improve their skill sets.

A background in oil and gas has given David a solid understanding of the practices and principles of the energy market. He was attracted to his current consultancy position by “the opportunity to work in a different way to my previous roles, and stretch my horizons,” he explains.

Since joining Gleeds, David has appreciated getting to know an increasingly wide group of expert colleagues and the passion they have for delivery excellence.

When asked which of our core values he feels most aligned with, David pinpoints Innovation with Agility. He says:

As a strategist, I’m always trying to consider how to improve the way activities are undertaken to drive simplification and efficiency.

This dovetails with the advice he’d give to a new starter joining Gleeds: spend time observing the business and building internal relationships, to understand the resources we make available to support our people in their work.

If David hadn’t followed his chosen career path, he believes he’d probably have become a chef. His free time involves more sports than cooking, however: with experience in coaching rugby union and field hockey, he continues to follow both sports, as well as paying regular visits to the gym.
