Craig leads Gleeds’ defence sector work in Scotland and Northern Ireland, and relishes the significant and interesting challenges projects involve. His role is split between strategic advisory, commercial leadership, and steering teams to deliver consistent, high-quality outputs. He also develops new business and helps to set the direction of Gleeds’ service offer in the region.
“Defence work carries genuine consequence,” Craig says of why the sector appealed to him. “These programmes support national capability and require disciplined thinking, strong commercial strategy, and long-term planning.”
No two days follow the same pattern for Craig, but most blend client discussions and commercial reviews, and encompass a mix of site work and technical input. Improving outcomes is what drives him most strongly. “When a project moves from concept to delivery with clear purpose, strong governance, and momentum, it feels worthwhile,” he explains. He also enjoys helping people to progress: “Watching someone grow into their responsibilities and hit a higher standard is as satisfying as the project outcomes.”
Craig appreciates Gleeds for being a place where people can deliver serious work at a senior level without losing their human side. “Deep technical expertise is combined with a culture built around trust, relationships, and straightforward communication,” he says. He is particularly proud of the long-term partnerships he’s built with major clients, many of which rely on his team as trusted advisors across multiple programmes.
Integrity, teamwork, and fairness are vitally important to Craig in the workplace.
Good decisions rely on clarity, honesty, and the confidence to say what needs to be said. Collaboration and mutual trust lift the standard of every project. Fairness ties it together; setting the tone for how we treat colleagues, challenge decisions, and represent clients.
Away from the office, Craig likes to explore Scotland with his wife and three children, visiting the mountains and making the most of their time outdoors. He also coaches his son’s football team, and has been trying for many years to get better at golf!
