Chris Smith is a Director within Gleeds’ international business, specialising in international major projects across a range of sectors, including airports, mixed-use developments, residential, commercial, hotels, headquarters, infrastructure and urban regeneration schemes.
Chris leads Gleeds’ international cost management service, guiding teams to successfully deliver some of the most significant and complex projects worldwide. His work involves close collaboration with architects and engineer clients, developing project strategies and presenting to stakeholders.
Whether working in client offices or connecting with colleagues globally, Chris prioritises problem-solving and seamless project execution. He also provides mentorship and support to his teams, maintaining the highest standards of service and client relationships.
Chris is motivated by the satisfaction of overcoming challenges, particularly in high-pressure situations. He is especially attracted to the scale and prestige of large international projects, and enjoys working with ambitious clients, especially in the Middle East and Europe. Chris joined Gleeds in 1999 after passing his RICS exam. The strong historic professional brand and global presence made it the perfect place for him to grow and eventually lead mega projects, whilst working around the world.
Chris has been a Director at Gleeds for almost 20 years, and throughout his career he has emphasised accountability, collaboration and performance within his teams. He ensures they consistently strive to exceed client expectations, maintaining both personal and professional integrity.
To those new to Gleeds, Chris advises immersing themselves in the company culture and taking decisive actions to achieve goals. Of his many milestone achievements at Gleeds, Chris is particularly proud of leading the Msheireb Downtown Doha project - a first-of-its-kind downtown regeneration project to restore the heart of Qatar’s Capital City and earned a Guinness World Record for the world's largest underground car park.
Outside of work, Chris enjoys playing golf with friends and family.
