As General Counsel, Benjamin plays a crucial role on the Gleeds Management Board, protecting the business from risk and improving resilience.
He works with colleagues across our global business to improve the governance, systems and processes that underpin Gleeds’ quality standards, strengthen our ability to withstand challenges, and manage potential risks.
Together with the Resilience and Compliance teams, his mission is to safeguard Gleeds and our clients. He aims to provide clear and concise legal guidance on a wide range of matters, handling anything from procurement law to our digital services. Benjamin is motivated to bring clarity and simplicity to complex legal issues and enjoys expanding his understanding of some of the intricacies of law in the construction sector.
I was drawn to Gleeds for its independence and reputation, we have some wonderful clients and work on some amazing projects together.
His proudest achievement at Gleeds was helping Gleeds to achieve the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award in 2023 - in which he was instrumental. The prestigious award represents recognition from the UK Government of Gleeds' commitment to supporting the armed forces community and their families.
Benjamin began his career in the Army before qualifying as a solicitor and working in M&A and corporate finance for global law firm, DLA Piper. In 2004, he moved in-house to begin more than 20 years’ leading the legal functions of companies working in the construction sector.
In his free time, he likes to stay active by tending to his "green gym", but when the weather permits, he enjoys going fishing or for a walk or in the Yorkshire Dales. Had he not pursued a career in law, he might have continued his service in the Army, and in the absence of either of those paths, he may have wanted to become a brewer.
