The Pod, in Bottle Lane Nottingham was designed by award-winning London architects Benson+Forsyth who won a £150,000 Architectural competition hosted by local developer Bildurn in conjunction with Latham Architects
The 108,000 sq ft seven storey development comprises of retail units, a 142-room hotel and a roof top bar / restaurant, the innovative scheme has been recognised by Nottingham City Council as part of their campaign to promote and encourage high standards of design.
The Pod provides a central focus in one of the most sought-after parts of Nottingham, linking Nottingham's historic Lace Market, the Bridlesmith Gate fashion district and the new retail units at One Fletcher Gate.
One of the challenging features of building on this derelict site was the network of caves present below the site and a buried disused railway tunnel, this was overcome by stabilisation works.
This project has won a number of awards including: - A commendation in the 'New Build' category of the Nottingham Lord Mayor's Awards for Urban Design - The building and construction category in the 'Power of Aluminum' awards , an award which celebrates the innovative and creative capabilities of aluminium.
